Description

Dinornis giganteus or South Island Giant Moa was one of the largest of the moa species. The females could grow to around 1.9 at the back and might have weighed up to 240 kg. Males were smaller and recent genetic studies have shown that D. struthioides is in fact the male of this species.
Moa ate leaves, shoots and leaves. D. giganteus could have reached up to 3 metres to obtain food. Gizzard stones are often found, I myself have found them. Moa are unique amongst birds in that they completely lacked wings.

If I have got anything wrong factually or anatomically, feel free to correct me!
