Indian Water Buffalo

Indian or Asiatic Buffalo (Bubalus arnee) are on the red list, there being fewer than 2500 adults in the wild. The domestic water buffalo is descended from this species. Buffalo are threatened by habitat loss and hybridisation with domesticated buffalo.


Not far from where I live is a small herd of water buffalo. This is rather unusual. I love their cute little faces, their floppy ears and the way they hold their heads tipped back under the weight of so much horn.
I probably made my buffalo a bit fat.
